Ashlyn is quiet. Not shy, just quiet. The kind of person who’d rather read a book than fill a silence, who notices things other people miss. She loves cheerleading and her dog Bear, even if she could do without the slobber. She loves riding the tram up in Teton Village. And this summer, before she starts her senior year, her family came to Jackson Hole to hold on to all of it for a little while longer.
We shot her senior portraits across multiple locations in Grand Teton, from a wooden dock over still water to the wildflower fields with the peaks rising behind her. Three outfit changes, each one its own mood. She was easy to photograph because she wasn’t trying to be anything she’s not. She just showed up as herself, and that’s exactly what made these portraits work.
The session also included her family. Her mom, her stepdad, Ashlyn, and Bear, all together in the mountains during a trip they’ll talk about for years. The last summer before everything shifts.
Made to Be Kept: Fine Art Prints and Albums
Ashlyn’s family chose to keep these portraits in ways they can touch. A handmade album they’ll pull off the shelf on holidays, during visits home, on the kind of ordinary evenings when you just want to remember who she was at eighteen. A portrait box with matted prints they can hold in their hands, frame one at a time, or set on a shelf and change with the seasons.
These aren’t files sitting in a cloud. They’re the kind of things you reach for. And they will, long after Ashlyn has left for college and started a life of her own.
