Some families have a place that holds everything. For the Rickle’s family, it’s Jackson Hole. They spend a few weeks here every summer. So when it came time to book their daughter’s senior portraits, they made it a two-part session, one for Ashlyn on her own and one for all of them together, in the place that already holds so much of their story.
So when it came time to finally get a family portrait taken, after years of saying they should, there was never a question of where. The four of them, including Bear, their German Shepherd who steals every room he walks into, stood together in the sage with the Tetons behind them and the wildflowers coming in around their feet.
There’s something different about photographing a family in a place they already love. They’re not performing. They’re not trying to look a certain way. Just there, together, in the landscape that already feels like home to them. That’s when the best moments (and photographs) happen.
From the Mountains to Your Walls
This family chose to keep these portraits in more than one way. A gallery wall for their dining room, the whole family together with the Tetons behind them. A single framed print of Bear, because some members of the family deserve their own wall. And a handmade album they can pick up on any given evening and remember exactly how that summer felt.
That’s what printed art does . A tangible reminder of a moment long gone. It’s there on a Tuesday morning over coffee and on a Sunday night when the house is quiet. It starts conversations and stops you in the hallway when you weren’t even thinking about it.
Years from now, when Bear is old and slow and Ashlyn has a home of her own, these will still be on the wall. Still bringing joy, reminding this family of who they were, together, in the place they love most.
